JonDay 9 June 29, 2006--On the Road

Today was more like a tranquil day and we had a fun day because almost end of the education vacation. We picked Cannon Beach to have fun there. The water was so freezing and we could not swim for long time. We do have lots of enjoyable adventures for our day!

Why did we pick the Cannon Beach for our rest day? The Cannon Beach is way better than just a water park because the beach is natural than the water park. Also, we can go swimming and drift effortlessly on the beach than the Water Park. The water park is just fake and had no sand or something with soft to play with. The beach does have loads of the sand and the real ocean which made us feel great!

In the late morning, the girls woke Richie and me because it’s already at ten in the morning. We hav e noticed our tummy swimmingbecoming fatter because we already eat lots on our vacation! Ahh.. Well, there are always change around our life, right?

As soon as we arrived to the Cannon Beach parking lots, we ran all the way to the beach because we want to have more fun if we get in there early. Know what the tempera ture out the beach? BRISK! We started to sit on the gentle sand and play the baseball together. Jessica and I went into the water and it was so freaking freezing nevertheless, I can stand it. Also the water smashed Jessica’s short jean and became soaked, Jessica whined. Lucky, I wore a swimsuit.  The odd thing was Jessica and I noticed the water near the sand bar was very warm. I thought the water near the sand in the center tide pool was unusually warm. Soon, I noticed the tons of the sea gull birds then I planned to catch the birds so I chased them. All of sudden, the sea gull bird flew off from the sand to the sky then came back to the other position of the sand. Jessica and I thought the view of the Pacific Ocean was so beautiful and we wished lived near there.

day 9After a while, Miss Zurek, Mrs. Nutt and Miss French walked along the shoreline and I decided to join them. We saw the persons rode on the horses that passed us. The horses were regular, not the race horses. Ms . Zurek asked me, “What is missing in the Pacific Ocean that the Atlantic Ocean has?” I was thinking and answers back to her, “The seaweed is missing around the Pacific Ocean. She responded me, “Correct!” So Ms. Zurek explained to me much more and so were Barbara, and Annie, too. We walked against the rock at the end of the beach. We have noticed that the Haystack Rock was looking similar from the “The Goonies” Movie. I didn’t realize that. Then we went back to spot where we stayed on the beach.

splashAll of sudden, I dared to myself if I can swim in the cold water. Soon, I did and Barbara took a picture of me while I was in the water. Later, we started to swim together because the sunny came out of the clouds. Yeah! We can swim a bit longer because the water turned was warmer than I thought. We forgot that we should say day nine, so we did take pictures by our loyal staff members. It’s better to have the load of fun than nothing at the end of our education vacation and it was great!

We ate ice cream which was near the beach and I got the nice and smooth vanilla bean ice cream in a cup. I started to type the journal on my laptop while we were on way to the WSD. We finally ate our dinner late at night. Good night!

P.S.  TOMORROW WILL BE OUR LAST DAY TO STAY IN THE WASHINGTON, AND WE ARE ALREADY DISAPPOINTED! WAH! : (

RichieyoDAY 9 June 29, 2006 On the Road

Today was our “off” day since that we weren’t going to anywhere. We all voted to go to Cannon Beach for the second time in a week. There would be no work or activities but just plain, old fun for us all. Our trip to Seattle yesterday was so fun and pleasurable. I actually loved the trip to Seattle the most since we arrived here in Washington.

Many of us actually wanted to stay in Seattle overnight and see everything but we couldn’t. We had to go back to WSD and we didn’t arrive here until 2 in the morning so we all were really tired. The boys and I didn’t wake until ten in the morning because the girls woke us up. They wanted us to get up and finish our journals for yesterday and leave for Cannon Beach as quickly as possible. We weren’t in the mood to write journals but we did. It wasn’t until twelve that the teachers decided to leave although they wanted us to finish our journals so we would have the rest of the day free. We packed and got ready for the trip. I knew that the temperature at the beach would be cool so I brought some warm clothes.

It’s an hour and half of a drive to Cannon Beach so we didn’t arrive there until around three. When we arrived there, we tried to walk to the beach more quickly because we were planning to stay here for short time. As we arrived at the beach, I was right about the weather, it was cool and a little cloudy. It did changed into sunny later in the afternoon. Some of the kids went into the shallow part of where the river meets the ocean to walk around. The teachers went away to take a walk around. Mike and I threw some baseball since that I brought two gloves and two balls with me. We actually threw for long time until our arms felt worked out.

beachAfterwards, I went into the shallow water where the river meets the ocean. I just wanted to walk around the water and try to find something interesting in the water. Nearby the shore, there were a couple of living mussels surrounded by many dead/opened mussels. I found one and tried to open it. No success for me. After seeing all of these mussels, it made me hungry because I wanted to eat mussels dipped into garlic sauce. I decided to reduce my hunger by walking to a local ice cream shop and got myself a large chocolate milk shake. It was actually refreshing because the weather started to get a little warmer and sunnier.
As I got back to the beach with my milkshake, I saw that the girls were throwing baseball with my gloves so I decided to join playing a little game of monkey-in-the-middle where the girls had to throw the ball over my head as I try to jump and catch it. Actually, the girls were a little better at throwing than I expected. As the throwing reduced, we all walked to the water. Some kids were crazy because they did jump into the cold water and swam around for short time. Jon got me wet because he splashed the cold water over my back. I actually don’t like to get close to cold water on a cool day but if it was a hot day then I wouldn’t have minded.

We did eat some of Seattle’s delicious Bing and Mt. Rainier’s cherries that we had bought yesterday. They were so delicious and juicy, nothing compared to these cherries that we have back at the east. We sat and drank some lemonade and Gatorade. For a while, we all didn’t do anything because we just wanted to rest since that we all had a long day the previous day. Shortly after that, the teachers said that we had to go back. We all wanted to stay and eat out here but we couldn’t because we had to get rid of whatever was left at WSD.

On the way back to WSD, a couple of kids including myself slept on the way because we were still having that “hangover” from the previous day. We all needed our nap since it was an hour and half drive back to WSD. When we arrived back at WSD, we all scrambled into our room to get ahead of our journals and investigations. It wasn’t much later until Ms. Zurek called on us for dinner. We all ate hamburgers, hot dogs, green beans, French fries, salad, and meatballs for dinner. We all failed at clearing everything out of the refrigerator because there were tons of everything left. The refrigerators need to be cleared since that we’ll leave here tomorrow night. Only one day left of Washington until we will set our journey back to Connecticut. I will truly miss the West especially Washington the most. Au Revior! See y’all tomorrow.
