This morning, Anne Nutt woke me up at 7am, I am pretty very tired and wanted to sleep more but couldn’t, because we have to go to Cape Disappointment which is around 2 hours away from WSD. So for breakfast, I ate Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal again, after that I had a short discussion with my girls group of what we need to bring to Cape Disappointment is because we need to ask some questions about Lewis and Clark expedition to the Ranger and be able to get some information and write it down in the paper. We sat in the lobby and waited for our teachers to get ready then off to the Cape Disappointment. Before when we get there, I saw there’s beautiful beach area of Cape Disappointment, a long bridge across the Columbia River and the view of it was very beautiful and I loved it! Also we went into the small museum place about the history of Lewis and Clark expedition from May 14, 1804 to November 18, 1805; with the lot of pictures and art works display as well. Ranger Aaron, this man who explained to us about Lewis and Clark history and what have they done in those old past when they are on their journey to Pacific Ocean from St. Louis in Missouri. Also, he had told us some stories about what Lewis had make some terrible mistakes during the journey and few of the people too, the reason he told us is because Lewis and Clark is the heroes who were very brave to do this toughest journey to the west but it doesn’t mean that they are perfect men, they do make some mistakes and it doesn’t matter because the other people include Lewis and Clark are still human people. But we still honor them for how brave men they are and they really did succeed! When Aaron finished with the presentation, we walked to the lighthouse which is only .6 mile away, the weather is kind of cold but cool and sunny too. When we arrived to the lighthouse with the beautiful view of the beach, lots of birds flying around and looking for the fish to catch and eat them for their lunch! At that time, we ate our lunch and chilling for awhile and walked back to the museum place. Some of us asked to the teachers about what’s next are we going to do, Nancy told us that we are going to Cannon Beach of where Goonies movie was made in that place and WOW I have to tell you this, Cannon Beach is so gorgeous place to go, the water is so warm to me and the sand so soft, not like the sand Connecticut has. We just sat chilling; walked into the water and the teachers took pictures of us in the water, what a very relaxing moment! Then, for dinner, we were very hungry and decided to eat pizza. We went out to eat near Cannon Beach. The pizza tasted so wonderful with less of cheese, not like the pizza that I always ate in my hometown. My hometown pizza has a lot of cheese and it is greasy as well. But anyway, pizza in the Cannon Beach place is soooo delicious! Afterward, we were on the way to WSD but we need to stop by somewhere in Portland to pick up Barbara’s son, and then we went to WSD. Still continue to day four… |

Another amazing day!!! We went to Cape Disappointment to learn about Lewis and Clark! Wow a long ride but beautiful, the landscape was amazing!!! Well anyway I woke up at 7 AM and got dressed, had a breakfast of Honey Nut Cheerios and made my lunch. Then we all waited for the staff to finish up on what they were doing. Then we left around 9 AM. We drove and we drove and we drove…..it was a really looong drive! We finally got there at 12. We went into the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center building and there is where we got all the history that we needed to finish up our research. They had pictures, short descriptions, and some things that Lewis wrote in his journal. Then at, I think 2:30, we went to see a presentation about Lewis and Clark. The presentation was about the mistakes that they did when they were on the trip. It was mostly about Lewis and his mistakes. Several of the mistakes that he did were things like: not packing enough shoes and socks for the other people who were going on the trip, bringing too many bullets, bringing too much lead and gunpowder, not testing an iron frame canoe before bringing it, and killing a buffalo - but not expecting anything else to want to eat it as well. I will tell you the story about the hunting the buffalo. Well they were at the Missouri Great Falls and Lewis had to find a way around it, so he volunteered to go and look for a route before they came with him. He found a route and mapped it and started coming back so he can bring he people around. On the last night he was hungry so he was looking for something to eat. He had many choices to choose from because he was on the plains and there was ton of game, but he wanted something big so that he can bring some for his people so they won’t be hungry. He spotted the closest buffalo and he took his aim and shot it, a direct hit! Then when he went to cut it so he can get the meat, a grizzly bear came to eat some as well. Lewis went to aim, got ready, and pulled the trigger but nothing came out. The rifle could only fire once and had to be reloaded each time you shot it. Lewis backed off to let the bear have the buffalo but the bear didn’t care about the buffalo. The bear started running after Lewis! Lewis took off toward the water, figuring that if he can get in the water up to about his chest area then he should be fine. But he forgot that when a bear stands up on his hind legs he is about nine feet tall. Lewis wasn’t about to give up and let the bear kill him. He got the courage to try and kill the bear with his walking stick that he had with him. But the thing was he had to try and convince the bear that he could kill him with the walking stick, so when Lewis raised his stick and ran toward the bear, the bear took off because he was terrified. Well that is the story the ranger told is about Lewis’ biggest mistake on the trip. Then after the presentation, Richie was starving so we hiked to the lighthouse that had been built in the late 1800’s. The hike was .6 mile one way so it was a 1.2 mile hike all together. When we got there, we ate our lunch. After eating, we hiked back and we all used the restroom before leaving the building to go to Cannon Beach in Astoria, Oregon. We went to the Cannon Beach….it was sooooooo beautiful!!!!! I love all the beaches here in Washington. The reason why I love it so much is because in CT there aren’t many waves, where here in WA you see many white caps and the waves crashing against the rocks/beach! I could have stayed there all day if I could, but I couldn’t heeheehee. After the beach, we went to a pizza restaurant. The pizza was really good; it had really thin crust and had a crunchy noise to it. But over all it was good. Also, I had breadsticks with the pizza as well. The breadsticks were okay. Then after the pizza we went to Portland to pick up Barbra’s son because he is sleeping over tonight because he has an interview tomorrow in Seattle. Well that is all I have to say about today’s work and excitement. Until next time….CIAO!!! AU REVIOR!!! HOLA!!!! I think that is all the languages I know that I can say good bye in heeheehee!! |

We woke up at around 7am in the morning. I woke up heavily and got ready for the day. All of us went to eat our breakfast. I ate a bagel and some of the other people ate bagel and cereal. Next thing was we made our own lunch and we made our perfect sandwiches. Some of us put chips and fruits in our bag too. We supposed to leave here at 8am but postponed to 9:15am because Mr. Meehan had problem with summer read lesson stuff and Ms. Zurek and Ms. Nutt had to help him about it through the pager. We had a long talk in the van and waited for Mrs. Nutt and Ms. Zurek. My group were doing our research and getting ready for the day. Our job was to asking man the questions and gets more information about Lewis and Clark. We were on the way to Ilwaco, Washington and it was a long drive. It was around 2 hours to get there. I talked with Richie, Mike, Jon, Lymarie, and Angelina. It was fun and took some of funny pictures of us. We had to stop to the gas station so we can get some of break and went to restroom. We bought some of snacks. I bought a snicker and it was my favorite candy ever! Finally, we arrived at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. It was a nice building. We started to walk the entire hallway that have all the information on the wall, so we can read them all. It was pretty a lot of information but very interesting. My group had to write the important information about Lewis and Clark. Ms. Zurek told all of us a story about Indians. Let me tell you what she said. The girl named Sacagawea; she was very young probably 16 years old. She gave birth to a baby when she took a part of a rattle from a rattle snake to help the contractions push the baby out faster. Lewis had adopted her son when the expedition was finished. He was a sweet boy. He grew up with Lewis ,when he was an adult and he joined the army. He also relate with Ms. Zurek’s mom’s friend’s family. It was cool!! It was also small world, don’t you think? Anyways now I’m talking about the girl, Sacagawea. Her tribe named was Agaiduka but her BIG tribe was Shoshone. She also had a brother named Cameanwait. They hadn’t seen each other in like seven or eight years. Finally, they met each other and missed each other. We went to upstairs and walked to the room that had a man to presentation about Lewis and Clark. He was very aggressive when he talked. It was around 20 minutes to presented for us. He explained us how did Clark did a lot stuff. When it was done, we went to see a beautiful land and we stood to the window so we can see everything outside. It was so amazing, beautiful, and marvelous. If they allow me to live here, I would! It was so green and covered with forest. We went out for a walk to the Cape Disappointment lighthouse. It was a long trail but fun because Mike and I raced to get there. But not both of us won. We were so tired. We started walking slowly to get there. Finally, 3 of us, Richie, Mike, and I went there first. It was so BEAUTIFUL! I don’t know how to explain it but I am sure you will love it when you see it. It was so vast!!! IT IS THE PACIFIC OCEAN!! Finally, I touched it I mean I had never seen what Pacific Ocean look like. I saw a lot of birds flying over the ocean to get some of fish. We ate our lunch. But I hate my lunch because my delicious banana is not good now. So I had to throw it outside so ants can eat all of it. We took some of pictures all of us next to light house and it was a nice picture. I asked Ms. Nutt and Ms. Zurek if we allow to swim in the Pacific ocean, because I haven’t seen any people swimming in the Pacific Ocean. They were like SURE but IT WILL BE FREEZEING if you are going to jump in the water. It is so cold water because the Humboldt Current brings warm water to Alaska and bring cold water from Alaska to Washington. Mike was so funny because he asked Ms. Zurek if Arizona will have cold water just like here but it don’t have ocean near Arizona. All of us were laughing so hard. We walked to back to the place where we were at before. Teachers asked us if we want to go to back to cottage or go to Cannon Beach. We chose the Cannon Beach. We drove to there for 1 hour. It was so beautiful and so much fun! We walked on the beach and we walked on the sand. Angelina and I were running to the water and got wet a little bit. All of us saw a huge rock just look like the movie called “Goonies”. We took some funny pictures of all of us. The girls had to sitting on boys back. I sat on Mike’s back and know what? Barbara told him to go to get some of exercise with her hahaha, because he doesn’t have a good balance and he kept falling when I sat on him. It was funny. We went to out for dinner. All of us ate pizzas except me. I ate BLT and it was good. Then we went to back to WSD and doing our journals and our research. BUT WE ARE SO TIRED! We had a lot of work to do but we had to. I am getting ready for bed bye. Good night. |
