sharing with the sky

NM sunsetOur feet stepped into the oldest historic pueblo, sitting in the valley of Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Ravens flying above us as we hastened toward ancient sacred ground to meet the eyes of a tall man, clothed with the ranger colors, waiting for us. There, a group of curious people who was in hunger of knowledge about the abandoned Pueblo Bonito, same as we are. The ranger smiled and waved his hand to us briefly. Eight of us sheepishly apologized to the group for being late but they understood and saluted us with no complaint.

Our hearts were relieved without guilt and followed their footsteps as they go... Words flowed out of the ranger’s mouth into the listening ears as an interpreter danced before our eyes. The mesa grew larger as we pulled our legs up, up, up, with determination, drinking in every drop to quench our thirst of the place. Drawings on the mountain shimmered as my lashes kept blinking. The huge star moved slowly, finally my pupils widened, absorbing the heart of carving work amongst their homeland of the Indians. Trails continued ahead of us, still the sun beat our bodies which made it harder to keep up. Luckily, the water we carried nourished us, and the Great Spirit smiled.

The working sun began to leave its duty and let the moon to show up. Almost full moon became as visible as the baby blue sky stay still. Clouds’ colors changed like chameleon sparkled. Wind’s blowing pushed us toward to our white van, exciting to watch the mightiest sky filled with stars. Nowhere to be found, the ranger led us and brought us along with other four strangers during the darkness. Others fled out of this place and only us, standing outside with the stars. The very few stars were fighting their way to see us as the bright moon overpowered all of the sky. The only way we can fight back against the moon is by the use of observatory telescope zooming the moon closer to us and glaring into one of my eyes. Spots appeared inside of my eye, flared somewhere as my gushing brain commanded me “That’s enough and forget about the moon”!

Again the van awaits us to exercise its motor and wheels, the front and rear lights awaken and the motor began to sound like when you making noises with your tongue. Our bobble heads loosely moving as the road’ bumps took over our van’s wheels. The Great Spirit closed my eyes for a while until the “home sweet home” is near. My bed hugged me and put me into a deep sleep… waiting for the sun to say ‘Hi’!
