Today was more of a cultural observation rather than historical. On our way, we caught the BART and got off at the Momentary Bay station. We stopped by the Sheraton Palace that was famous for its fancy rooms and expensive food, we went to check out to see how much the foods cost and it was a RIP-OFF! We found our way to Chinatown and took a picture near the lion statue at the entrance of Chinatown. We went into some of the souvenir stores. Comparing the stores here to the ones in New York, San Francisco was expensive and fancier. Angelina bought a beautiful Chinese kimono outfit. Kangni tried on one but it didn’t fit her. The dress sizes compared to American dress sizes was way different. Chinese size eighteen was fat compared to American size eighteen. We went into different stores, looked at jewelry which were so gorgeous. We went into one store that was Chinese herbs. Some containers had shark fins, deer tails, and dog’s tails and so on. It was so gross but at the same time it was what the Chinese people believed that cured them. It was interesting, Kangni translating in English for us. She bought a bag of sweet dried prunes – yummy and some seaweed. Kangni and I shared it all to ourselves while the others were giving disgusting and unbelievable faces that we were eating something so gross. But it was delicious and sweet. Afterwards, we went to the Fortune Cookies Factory. They handed out some cookies and they were delicious! We ate some on our way to the Cable Car Museum, walking up all those crazy hills, but well we got exercise! We looked around in the Cable Car Museum. It showed how cable cars started and what happened after the earthquake in 1906, how they repaired the cables. Shortly after that we found our way to the cable cars, but after hearing the news that it costs five dollars per person to ride a cable car! I thought it would be a little cheaper but five dollars!! So we decided to save that for when we visit Alcatraz and ride all the way down to Fishman’s Wharf!! So I’m excited to ride the cable car! We walked our way back and asked a recommendation from one local which was the best Chinese restaurant in town. ![]() It was called Lichez’ Gardens. It was full of Chinese people so it meant that it was a good restaurant. We ordered and ate we had huge portions of food so we shared them. After dinner we were so full and we had to walk back to BART station. It looked like we missed the last train directly back to Fremont so we caught the other one and got off at one of the stops and waited for another train. On that train we headed back home. I’m thrilled for tomorrow! We’re going to Berkeley to see the old California School for the Deaf and Telegraph Hill! |
