Mike   Journal: Day Three   other journals

We woke up at 8am and we were ready for today’s investigation about the gold rush. We were very jealous that girls were first to be finished because they woke up early. I was felt a bit little better and I hope that my throat should be better than before.

marshallFor a while, I rode in the van and I was very thirsty. We stopped at the plaza where it had many places that we can stop. Some of us went to Starbuck’s for a drink and I drank iced vanilla latte which replenished my energy! But my throat was still bothering me and I have to be brave to swallow. It was such a long ride from Fremont to Sacramento.

Finally, we arrived in James Marshall’s Discovery of Gold State Historical Park and we were very inquisitive to learn about how the gold rush started! It was really hot there and more dry than San Francisco. During the hot day, we walked around many places and we really enjoyed watching a man talk about being a blacksmith. It was very interesting to see a man who made the iron things for customers. A man knew about the blacksmith in Mystic Seaport and we were very shocked that he knew about it.

After that, we saw the museum that explained how th e gold rush started and how the Indians felt when people just came through their lands. Darren and I had to write down everything about the gold rush because it seemed only that place have a smithlot of good information and more good facts. It was very interesting to see how the machines work to dig for the gold and they have many different ways to get the gold. We saw John Sutter’s sawmill where they discovered the gold there and I can’t imagine how many people are hungry to get the gold! We found where James found the gold in small creek but the small creek was very slimy! I don’t understand why it should be clean that James found the gold.

Next, we went to gold panning which we dig for the gold and we were very motivated to have the gold on our own! I was very happy that I got 10 small pieces of gold and three garnets. At first time, I got like three small pieces of gold on the pan and we were going to dig the sand for about five times which it was great because there are more gold in the cup! I can’t imagine how gold miners got those gold pieces for a day! It was very amazing how they dig the gold. We were lucky that we can bring our small cup of the gold and garnets and I can’t wait to show my parents!

Then, we went back to the cottage in CSD and we did the journal and investigations in the van. We ate dinner and I ate hot dog which it was kind of struggle to swallow because my throat was still sensitive. I hope that my throat could much better tomorrow! Hope you enjoy my journal! ?
