Getting up at 7:30am, took a shower and getting everything ready to leave. Breakfast was peanut butter and jelly sandwich. After breakfast was done, Nancy explained her time being with the hippies; it was so interesting to learn the history. When we finished our conversation, we took off and walked a half mile to BART. BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is a metro system that takes people all around San Francisco and the area. After riding a half hour on BART we arrived at the Civic Center. When we left Fremont, it was 66 degrees outside, and when we stepped out in San Francisco; it was 59 degrees with strong winds. Also, when we stepped out, there was a farmer’s market, and everything was so cheap. Angelina and Kangni had to go to the bathroom, so Annie asked where the bathroom was and we found out that you have to pay for it. We were shocked! We walked a little farther and found a Burger King. As we entered; we found out that we still had to pay.
While I was walking, I did notice many things and that was homeless people. In the back of my mind, it made me think, what made them go homeless or did they just choose to be, I felt so bad for them. We took a bus to Golden Gate Park. The bus was so packed and busy that the bus stopped over 20 times, it was awful.
When we arrived, we walked around a little bit then we came to where we found a section in the park had lawn bowling. We sat down and watched a few people play while eating our lunch and freezing our butts off because it was so windy! After that, we walked to the Japanese Garden. When I first walked in, I was so shocked because everything was so clean and it looks so peaceful. It made me feel so relax and think about good things. We saw different kind of flowers, bridge, towers and much more. One thing about the flowers and trees, everything was so GREEN! After the sightseeing, we sat down in the restaurant and tried some teas. We had green tea and jasmine tea. Both of them were so delicious and we all were relaxed and enjoying our time together.
Before we went to the Japanese Garden, we went to the National Aids Memorial Grove. It was very interesting because a floor had inscription names of who has died from AIDS. At the same time, it was very touching because one woman was strolling her husband down the ramp. Then she picked her husband up and started dancing because she knows he is dying from AIDS and that was a great example of true love between two people. We all were very touched.
After doing the Japanese Garden, we walked around the park, saw more flowers and met with new people. It was a nice day for us to relax and catch up with our jetlag.
We walked back the BART station and took the metro back to Fremont. We all were exhausted from all the walking that we did. We got back to the dorm and started our work.
