After the
first day, like any traveling experiences are always busy, jet lags and all the excitements leaves us exhausted.

d1_megan01I was so exhausted from my flight from Bermuda to North Carolina to Hartford last night. My flight that left from North Carolina to Hartford had been cancelled from the few numbers of crews. So I had to get a new flight which left 7:25pm and that time it was barely 3pm. Having to layover in North Carolina for 5 hours I tried to keep myself busy with the readings that were given to us before the trip started. I didn’t arrive home till 12:30am and went straight to bed. Four hours sleep that night was approximately enough for me. I could barely sleep, with all the excitements stirring inside of me.

Waking up at the crack of dawn, getting dropped off at ASD, met with Angelina, caught up with each other about the past week, then along with Anne, Nancy and Charise – our driver; we all drove to Southbury where we picked up fellow classmates, Darren and Mike. We got stuck in the traffic on the way to Stamford, Connecticut on our way to JFK to pick up Kangni. We talked among ourselves on the bus to kill time. We arrived at JFK and checked in, we arrived at our gate just in time before the plane left the gate. That was a close one! It was a long five hour flight, seeing the land from the plane, talking pictures and learning among ourselves.

d1_megan02We arrived in California, we barely could stay in our seats. The group stopped by the baggage claim and fetched our suitcases then hopped on the Air Tran that took us to different places around the San Francisco Airport, and a big one it was; so huge that our stop took us along side the highway. We stopped by the car rental place and got a nice big silver van that fit at least fourteen people, helped each other with our suitcases and hopped into the van.

On our way to California School for the Deaf, Fremont, we took pictures, talking among ourselves once again, having the time of our lives before all the hard work comes. We learned about the environment, comparing California to Connecticut. The mountain that surrounds California was gorgeous. We noticed how different the architecture feature was from the west to the east coast. We finally arrived at CSDF; we met the director, Mr. Henry Klopping who took us on a tour of the big, beautiful campus of CSDF. We had our breath taken by the landscape of flowers and trees and natural beauty of California. We entered the dorm, struggling which room we should take and finally started settling in, logging on the computers and getting the internet to set up. We met the IT man so he could check our computers. We talked and I learned some different signs than ours. Not only what we learned about the environment and architecture features, but the deaf people and their deaf culture in the west coast. Our first day has gone so well and all the excitements have died down from the load of work that we will face soon.
